Skye Buatava

Director (Policy)

Skye is a distinguished executive and board member who operates at the forefront of modern safety governance. A leader who views Work Health and Safety (WHS) as a commercial enabler rather than a compliance obligation, she leverages a career that spans competitive private enterprise, high-stakes government regulation, and large-scale corporate operations.

Currently serving as the General Manager of Injury Care and Workers Compensation at Woolworths Group, Skye oversees the strategic, financial, and operational health of one of Australia's largest injury management portfolios. Her approach is deeply informed by her foundational experience in the aviation, telecommunications, and tourism sectors. This early exposure to the operational realities of both small business and multinational corporations sharpened her commercial acumen, allowing her to design safety strategies that align with business goals.

Prior to Woolworths, Skye applied this private-sector pragmatism to senior leadership roles within the NSW Government’s WHS Regulator. As Director of Investigations and Strategic Intelligence, she was instrumental in modernizing regulatory approaches. She also founded the Centre for Work Health and Safety and managed the delivery of the 23rd World Congress on Health and Safety at Work, cementing her status as a thought leader in the field.

A Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), Skye holds key governance roles that shape the future of the industry. She is a Board Member for the Australian Institute of Health and Safety (AIHS) and serves globally as an Advisory Panel Member for the Lloyd's Register Foundation's Global Safety Evidence Centre, providing strategic guidance to ensure evidence-based decision-making in global safety.
